Choose the right container
In some cases, coffee needs to be shipped in specialized equipment (super-ventilated containers) to prevent condensation. To meet customer demand, Safmarine has made a significant investment in its specialist container fleet. Don't take the risk of having condensation harm your precious commodity. Allow Safmarine's CommCare team to help you choose the right container for your needs.
Check the container
No one knows the importance of a clean container more than Safmarine. Our containers are checked to ensure they are free of any residues, rust and structural damage. We ensure that your coffee is protected from insect and rodent infestation and strong odours. Because we know what an important role a modern, clean container plays in helping to preserve the precious aroma of coffee.
Before containers are dispatched, we check that doors can be securely locked, that containers are dry and that there are no holes to let in moisture or light.
Pack the container properly
When it comes to packing a container, as so with so many things in life, there is a right way and a wrong way. At Safmarine we 'dress' our containers with carton to protect bagged coffee when required; for bulk shipping we provide high quality liner bags. We're also on hand to offer valuable advice on how to minimize free space and reduce the chances of bags shifting.
Ensure the safety of your coffee
In order to reduce condensation damage, coffee needs to be shipped as soon as possible after packing. Safmarine's CommCare team will liaise with you to determine the best time and date for delivering your container to the terminal. This will reduce the time the coffee beans are exposed to the elements, particularly heat.
